We developed our programs with the University of Washington in Seattle, as well as The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.
Entrepreneurship (UW): Helping students learn how to start a successful business with University of Washington’s Foster School of Business and visit with local startups.
Game Experience (UW): Introduces students to game development, teaching them elements of design, animation, and manage their own game companies.
Fashion at FiDM: This program is for students who want to dive into LA's fashion and design industry and learn how to take designs from concept to consumer.
Experience Japan (Nagoya & Tokyo): This immersion trip is for students who have a passion for Japanese language and culture. It gives students the opportunity to explore Japan as a tourist, student, and professional.
Teen Health Connection Conference: Youth to Youth 2016
Nationally, Youth to Youth is the recognized leader for engaging youth in positive change. Each summer, Youth to Youth offers tremendous leadership opportunities for adolescents and the adults who work with them. The one-of-a-kind conference experience, led by trained teens alongside adults, is the training that group and coalitions across the country count on annually to serve as a vital catalyst to initiative or strengthen their youth prevention programming. This year Teen Health Connection is sponsoring the Youth to Youth Southern States Conference in Charlotte at Queens University. 2016 Southern States Conference Tuesday, July 19 - Friday, July 22, 2016. By attending this four day conference, adolescents will meet and befriend drug-free teens from all over the country, develop skills to make positive choices, attend interactive and informative workshops, hear nationally known speakers, develop action plans to create change in their schools and communitues and learn vital leadership qualities and skills that they can use for a lifetime, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
In one FAST week, five afternoons, you will be exposed to the basics of what it takes to be on-air at a radio station, anchor a TV Newscast, work behind the scenes at a broadcast facility, write a script, voice a commercial, capture footage, edit a package, be on-camera and be exposed to Social Media and its effect on the industry. You will meet industry professionals; get your questions answered by people with first hand knowledge; tour several area broadcast facilities and experience a taste of the real-world of broadcasting. Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
RAP is a four-week residential summer program for current high school juniors and seniors. Its main objective is to stimulate interest in agriscience professions, including: biological engineering/ biotechnology/ business and economics/ child development/ fashion and apparel/ food product development/ horticulture/ landscape architecture/ nutrition/ teaching/ veterinary science, and many more.
Through the program, students will:
Earn while learning for the summer.
Gain first-hand experience in research conducted under the direction of the SAES research scientists.
Conduct research projects ranging from landscape architecture and pesticide studies, biotechnology, horticulture and animal sciences to air quality, food and nutrition and international trade.
Gain exposure to a number of structured activities including field trips, workshops and laboratory demonstrations, and instruction in computer applications, technical and scientific writing and public speaking.
B.U.I.L.D: Brother United in Leadership Development
Creating Connections, Opportunities, and Access for Males of Color in K-12 Education
The Brothers United in Leadership Development (B.U.I.L.D.) Summit, presented by the North Carolina State University College of Education, is designed to expose 9th-11th grade high school male students, in particular male students of color, to the diverse role of leaders in a growing global society. Through the summit, participants will learn leadership skills, the variety of academic disciplines in the education field, and develop skills to enhance their career and college readiness.Participants will also have the opportunity to interact with current K12teachers, university faculty,community leaders, and current college student leaders, as well as increase their knowledge about the postsecondary education environment. Federal Service Language Academy (FSLA)
If you are interested in international affairs or in a federal service career in organizations such as the FBI, CIA, Department of State, or US Military after graduation from college, then you should consider applying to the FSLA. Our languages are taught in low-stress settings by highly-trained instructors using communicative language teaching methods. Our outstanding applicants come from every background, ethnicity, and religion, but all have similar interests in language learning and international understanding.
At the end of one of our three-week sessions, you will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of your language of study, a grasp of general cultural norms, and a jump-start in preparing for college-level foreign language or international affairs education leading toward a potential career in federal service. The Martha Guy Summer Institute for Future Business Leaders (MGSI) has a solid, 12-year history of inspiring students through exploration of the business world, and we are now accepting applications for our 2016 Cohort.
Unique aspects of MGSI: · Unlike most summer opportunities, MGSI combines a residential experience with out of state travel. Following two weeks on campus at Appalachian State University, the program concludes with a week of travel to various business and cultural/entertainment sites. The LEDA Scholars Program
The LEDA Scholars program is free for all students admitted and includes the following components:
Recruitment and Admission: Each year, LEDA finds and recruits approximately 100 LEDA Scholars. Scholars are high-achieving, low-income students from communities that are under-represented at our nation’s top colleges and universities and in the nation’s leadership sectors. LEDA engages in a national recruitment effort to identify talented, low-income students who demonstrate leadership potential who do not have access to support that would enable them to attend our nation’s top colleges and universities.
The Aspects of Leadership Summer Institute: Held annually on the Princeton University campus, the Summer Institute is an intensive, seven-week program that includes leadership training, writing instruction, standardized test preparation, and college guidance.
College Guidance: LEDA staff are trained to open students’ eyes to the range of college possibilities and to encourage students to consider which colleges and universities will provide the best fit. Students have the opportunity to visit colleges, meet and interact with college admissions staff, and learn firsthand about the admissions process. LEDA staff guide all Scholars through each stage of the application process and provide one-on-one counseling and support for essay writing, college advisement, financial aid, and scholarship applications.
Scholar Support: LEDA provides on-going resources and guidance for Scholars attending college and for those who have graduated in order to help them achieve academic success and become leaders on campus and beyond.

Shelton Challenge 2016
What is the Shelton Challenge?
The Shelton Challenge is a six-day residential experience to help students expand their knowledge and skills of what it takes to be a leader. Students will participate in activities that will help them have a greater understanding for: Personal Leadership Assessment and Interpersonal Dynamics; Role of Values and Ethics in Leadership; Leadership Traits and Approaches; Teambuilding and Empowering Others; Civic and Social Responsibility; and Goal Setting.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in team building activities, low and high ropes courses, service project, and fun night activities to help students get to know others participating in the program.
The Shelton Challenge seeks youth who are going into the 9th to 12th grades (graduating seniors included) with a 3.0 grade point average (unweighted) or higher. Cost to attend the program is $625 for the week.
